5 Munich start-ups driving the energy revolution

These five Munich-based start-ups are developing solutions to accelerate the energy revolution in Germany and around the world.

Energyminer
Energyminer develops and operates kinetic hydroelectric power plants. The Munich-based company’s micro hydropower plants generate electricity from the flow of rivers without interfering with the river biotope. The hydroelectric power plants operate almost entirely under water and are barely visible. Inside them is an operational turbine system driven by the river’s flow velocity. In the event of high water or ice, the system automatically sinks to the bottom thereby bringing itself to safety—however, it continues to generate energy. Energyminer’s goal is to establish kinetic hydropower as an essential component of the energy revolution. (Photo: Isenhoff / Philip Herzhoff)
