What we eat is changing: It should be healthier and, ideally, more sustainable and eco-friendly. That’s where these Munich foodtech startups come in.

Happy Ocean Foods
Happy Ocean Foods: Plant-based fish alternatives are what the Munich foodtech startup Happy Ocean Food wants to put on people’s plates. Which is why since 2019, the young company has been working on plant-based shrimp made of soy and mung beans. Interested fish friends can now try the first product by Happy Ocean Food in a Munich restaurant, and additional sales partners are to soon follow. According to the two founders Robin Drummond and Julian Hallet, there are also plans to expand the Happy Ocean food range to include additional fish alternative products. In a seed funding round, the Munich startup was able to raise 118,000 euros in May 2020. (Photo: Happy Ocean Foods)
